What Do Thyroid Hormones Do?

Thyroid Hormones
The thyroid gland is a gland with an internal secretion and it secretes two hormones into the bloodstream.

A lack of  thyroid hormones can slow down the metabolism by about 40%, while the excess of the hormones accelerates basic metabolism by 60% to 100% above the normal level.

The thyroid gland is a gland with an internal secretion and it secretes two hormones into the bloodstream. These hormones are thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3) and they contain iodine in their chemical structure. The thyroid gland is associated with the function of other glands such as the adrenal glands and gonads.

The thyroid hormones are thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3) and they contain iodine in their chemical structure. Their main task is to keep up the basic metabolism of the cells. As a result, they take part in the function of all organ systems and nutrients in the metabolism. The lack of these hormones slows down the basic metabolism by about 40% which can lead to Hypothyroidism. The excess of the hormones accelerates basic metabolism by 60% to 100% above normal level and can lead to Hyperthyroidism.

The synthesis and degradation of proteins happen under the influence of the thyroid hormones. They also improve the metabolism of fat and carbs, stimulate the growth in young people and they play an important role in mental functions.
